A collaborative project with AKVK.
23 Skidoo is a film by Julian Biggs, created in 1964 for the National Film Board. A mysterious narrative presents long takes of empty city scenes. Hinting at a post-apocalyptic Montreal landscape silenced of all activity, smaller sounds move to the foreground of the soundtrack.
With extensive searching and image matching, we were able to find the locations of many of the shots. On some occasions, these locations were still intact for a near identical framing, and other times everything had changed.
The original sites in the city become starting points for a new exploration of a city whose sounds have changed yet again for mysterious reasons…
Shot on location in winter 201o. 16mm black and white. Soundtrack by AKVK.
