??A switch is thrown and the lights are off. A room relaxes at the corners, softens at its edges then collapses without a sigh. In one instant all is obscured and in equal duration revealed again. A whispered topography unfolds.??
Chandeliers, lamps, lanterns draped in black fabric. Items from the collection of the MuseÌe de Joliette – once charged with throwing light across walls, describing rooms and their contents – have been concealed under dropcloths. The dropcloth falls over these objects, tracing over their form as wind traces quiet highways at night.
This project considers this brief moment of concealment. A swift gesture captured and amplified.. As the fibres of the dropcloth bend and fold to describe the form of the objects against which they fall, the smallest sounds are recorded.
These sounds become a map. A topography of form is transduced into sound. A physical darkness becomes an audible image.
