June Callwood Park Groundbreaking
Councillor Mike Layton (Ward 19 Trinity-Spadina) and City of Toronto staff will join members of the community to celebrate the groundbreaking for June Callwood Park, Tuesday June 4 at 9 am.
June Callwood, who passed away in 2007, was one of Canada’s most acclaimed journalists as well as celebrated author, television host, feminist and social activist. She received nearly 20 honourary degrees, as well as Canada’s highest honour – Companion of the Order of Canada.
The creation of the park resulted from an international design competition. The park will include flexible play areas, a maze and puzzle plaza for children of all ages, seating, an urban forest, public art and gardens. The Garden Club of Toronto worked together with the City of Toronto and the park’s landscape architects to plan the park design and to fundraise for the garden’s plant materials and memorial trees.
Members of Callwood’s family will be in attendance.
